Why I chose cybersecurity, what fuels me every day, and how a background in emergency medicine shaped the way I approach this work.
Coming from a background in emergency medical services, I've seen firsthand how critical systems and people's safety depend on quick thinking, prevention, and response. Cybersecurity felt like a natural evolution — where instead of protecting physical bodies, I protect systems, data, and infrastructure. I chose this field because I want to be on the frontlines of digital defense, solving problems that matter and making a real impact before harm occurs.
I'm driven by curiosity, challenge, and the need to make a tangible impact. I thrive in situations where quick learning, troubleshooting, and creative problem-solving are essential. I value clear communication, lifelong learning, and doing meaningful work that protects people and organizations from harm. Every certification I earn and every lab I complete is one step closer to the professional I'm becoming.
Growing up on a farm and working in EMS taught me responsibility, resilience, and how to handle high-pressure situations without falling apart. Whether I'm responding to a critical system alert, debugging a network issue, or learning a new technical skill at midnight, I bring a mindset of adaptability, persistence, and doing the job right the first time. These aren't soft skills — they're survival skills that translate directly into security work.
